Violence in the family as seen by children

Anneli Väär

City of Tallinn - Anneli Väär, Child Protection Specialist

Violence against children is an emotionally difficult and complex issue that affects all of us, directly or indirectly. The sad fact is that violence against a child is knowingly/unknowingly perpetrated by those who are most important and safe for the child - his or her mother and father. What can parents do themselves to prevent violence, where is the boundary between the child as the property of the parents and the child as a person, who can the child trust, etc.? I will be looking for answers to these and other questions, and I will reflect with the conference participants on the topic of violence in the family from the child's point of view.
